Content and Social Network Analyses of Depression-related Tweets of African American College Students

The prevalence of depression is higher among African American college students compared to their White counterparts. They are also more likely disclose feelings on Twitter. aim this exploratory study was answer the following questions: What most common themes depression-related tweets students? Are there differences in social network characteristics that have posted a tweet or retweet and those who not? Content analyses were conducted. results showed focused depression, casual mentions, supportive messages. In addition, we observed networks users posting mutual connections with friends than did not post tweet. These findings may help inform design media interventions for students.
